Level 2 Certificate in British Sign Language
terptree are planning to run a Level 2 Certificate in BSL course in the Reading/Newbury area and are currently seeking interest.
- Did you enjoy your Level 1 in BSL?

This qualification is designed to enable learners to develop an ability to communicate with Deaf people using BSL in a range of familiar contexts, participating in longer and more open-ended exchanges than at Level 1. The course will develop functional communication in BSL about a range of real life, routine and daily experiences. The learner will be able to deal with most routine language tasks and have sufficient grasp of grammar to cope with some non-routine tasks.

terptree are no longer running a Level 3 NVQ Certificate in BSL due to insufficient numbers to run the course.

bsl bitesize
terptree run a fantastic 5-week course that covers the basics of British Sign Language (BSL). This course is ideal for those who have little or no knowledge of BSL. Each week our Deaf tutor covers topics such as introductions, emotions, family, hobbies and social life. This enables participants to gain a basic conversational level of BSL and can also help people decide whether they would like to enrol on a Signature Level 1 course.
The cost of attending is £15 per session. Get 10% off the whole cost if you pay for a course in advance!

how to be an interpreter
this is a fantastic opportunity for anyone who is considering starting a career in interpreting. The sessions are run by the Director of terptree Victoria Williams who a fully qualified MRSLI with years of experience working as an interpreter. The event goes through exactly what level of qualifications are needed, to what bookings are available, earnings, working with a co-worker and lots of other challenges people may encounter along the way.
Our last event was on 4 June 2011 and was extremely popular.

sign language in the sun
terptree run a Summer school of BSL-based activities, which offers students the opportunity to meet other learners and share experiences as well as learn something new in a fun and informal environment. All activities are based on the theory that learning should be fun and are facilitated by a number of Deaf people so that students can gain exposure to varying uses of BSL. Here are some parts of the programme:
Learner's Workshops: Giving you the opportunity to brush up on your skills and learn more about the Deaf community. An afternoon session involving 4 mini-workshops covering 4 topics, each workshop lasting 30/45 min. Learners will get into small groups and rotate around the workshops which will be run by Deaf trainers and interpreters.
Date: Saturday 6 August 2011 2-4.30pm
Social BBQ: An event for members of the Deaf community/learners/interpreters/volunteers/friends, where we can all come together to network, practice signing....... and enjoy a burger in the sun!
Date: Saturday 20 August 2011 12-3pm
Family BSL Bitesize: A half day course covering an introduction to BSL suitable for all ages and ideal for those with little or no knowledge of BSL.
Dates: Tuesday 9 August 2011 10-12pm and Thursday 11 August 2011 2-4pm

bsl refresher
terptree run refresher courses to help those students who would like further support outside of their Signature Level 1, Level 2 and NVQ 3 courses. This offers the opportunity to practice in a safe environment with others who are at a similar level of study. The session can also be used for pre-exam preparation, which can be very useful in supporting student�s build-up confidence before their exams.
Our next courses are on: Level 1: Tuesday 14 June 2011 and Wednesday 15 June 2011 7-8.30pm

1:1 bsl refresher
If students would rather be supported on a 1:1 basis, terptree are there for you. Our Deaf tutor provides excellent 1:1 support in a private and comfortable environment that is tailor-made for you.
This service is perfect for you if there are areas of the curriculum that you would like to specifically develop in preparation for your Level 1 or Level 2 exam, prepare for filming NVQ Level 3 clips, or even if you have not used BSL for a long time and would like to get back into it, preparing yourself for a new course.
Our next 1:1 sessions are: Level 1 and Level 2: Tuesday 21 June 2011 and Wednesday 22 June 2011 One-hour slots

It costs £25 to resit your exam and deal with all the added stress - or £27 to improve your confidence and ability and achieve success.

interpreter training
terptree have an exciting interpreter training programme for those that wish to train as interpreters in the future and also BSL/English interpreters who are registered with NRCPD. We recognise that there is a real lack of interpreter training services in the Thames Valley and we wish to fill that gap.
terptree are keen to support as many individuals throughout their training as possible in our commitment to increase the numbers of BSL/English interpreters.
