Deaf Awareness in Hospital

28 April 2009

Deaf patients at a Bath hospital will soon be treated by hundreds of Deaf Aware staff. Around 250 doctors, nurses and other frontline staff will be trained through a scheme run by SignTranslate involving terptree.

Medical staff are also being trained in using a webcam service which means interpreters can remotely translate between doctor and patient if there are no interpreters available at the hospital.

The scheme starts in June at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
