Shocking industry news out today.....

01 April 2009

The decision has been taken on 1 April 2009 by the Government’s Deaf department that British Sign Language (BSL) will no longer be used. This decision was based on research into signed languages and it was found that American Sign Language (ASL) is much more efficient, with a one-handed fingerspelling alphabet and will save British Deaf people time.

A representative from the department stated “We feel that the use of ASL will offer Deaf people in the UK a more resourceful way of communicating and will make life easier.”

In order to include this change, terptree have decided to re-train all of our interpreters in ASL, so no need to worry as we will still be able to provide you with the best interpreting services that you have begun to expect.
