SignTranslate's launch in Blyth Valley

04 October 2008

Today, terptree supported the launch of SignTranslate's online interpreting at Blyth Valley Council.

The launch welcomed the Chief Executive Officer of Blyth Valley Council, the local Mayor and the local Deaf community to test the system for themselves.

Blyth Valley Council are offering the local Deaf community the opportunity to use a relay service to make contact with the council.

This mean that a Deaf person could be at home with a webcam and connect directly to an interpreter. The Deaf person informs the interpreter who they would like to call within the council. The information is then relayed to the Deaf person in sign language and to the hearing person on the telephone in English.

terptree are pleased to be a part of this project which enables Deaf people to communicate in their first language - British Sign Language.
