Statement of Policy

It is the policy of terptree that no employee, client or interpreter receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of sex, race, marital status, disability, age, sexual orientation or religion.

Definition of Discrimination

terptree recognises that discrimination exists and is opposed to both direct and indirect discrimination. terptree will not tolerate behaviour in form of discrimination, harassment or bullying.

People might experience discrimination for various reasons such as their gender, race, religion, ethnic origin, disability, age, marital status, class, caring responsibilities, sexuality or HIV status.

  • Direct discrimination: this occurs when one person is treated less favourably than another on grounds relating to sex, race, marital status, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion
  • Indirect discrimination: this occurs where an employer puts in place requirements, conditions or practices that affect all staff, but as a result an employee or group of employees is affected disproportionately to other groups
